Classrooms and Curriculum

The Children's Place preschool offers a play-based and developmentally appropriate curriculum for all our students.  Our curriculum is designed to be flexible, thematic, and to foster developmental growth through multi-sensory experiences.

Children are active learners, who explore their world in a variety of ways.  Play is the work of the young child, and research shows that children are able to build foundations for basic academics-reading, writing, and mathematics-which make up a child's later learning experiences through play.

Art - In addition to daily classroom art opportunities, students in our 2's-kindergarten classes are provided in-depth lessons on art concepts in monthly art class.  Children are introduced to the basic concepts of art through enhanced art projects.  Fine motor skills are emphasized and children are encouraged to view the world around them through an artistic eye.

Music - On Tuesday and Wednesday mornings each week, all of our students participate in music class.  Children are introduced to basic musical concepts, that explore thematic curriculum concepts reinforced through song and dance.  Gross motor skills are improved and practiced with dancing and creative movement.  Fine motor skills are used with finger plays, props, and instruments.

Health and Safety Procedures

  • All our doors are locked after drop-off and remain locked throughout the day.

  • Each teacher carries a first-aid kit in and out of the classroom to ensure that quick care can be given if needed.

  • All children will be signed in and out each day by a guardian and/or other approved adult listed on the emergency contact form.  Copies of these forms are kept in the office as well as with each classroom teacher.

  • We ask that you keep your child home from school if he/she has had a fever, vomiting or diarrhea, rash with fever, mouth sores with drooling or changes in behavior in the past 24 hours.  You will receive a call requesting your child be taken home if they experience any of the above-mentioned symptoms during the school day.

 FAQs

  • The Children's Place preschool will provide a daily, healthy snack to all classrooms.  A snack menu will be posted weekly on the parent communication board in each building and on the Brightwheel app.

Parents who bring their child's snack from home accept responsibility for its nutritional content.  A signed statement will be required if you choose to provide your child's snack.

  • Teachers are available at the beginning and end of each day for brief updates on your child's school experience. Teachers and parents may also communicate through the Brightwheel app. Parent-teacher conferences are held in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Parents should watch for calendars, newsletters, emails, classroom postings, and fliers outside the classrooms and on the Brightwheel app.  All of these methods of communication are used by the teachers and staff in order to provide information about school-wide events, classroom happenings, policy changes, and other helpful information.

  • The Children's Place will be closed when Denton ISD is closed for scheduled days.  We will also send a communication through the Brightwheel app as well as update our Facebook page in the event of a closing or unplanned early release due to weather.
